A Story of Rahayu Rahmadila, Bangkit 2023 Batch 1 Graduate from Statistics, Universitas Diponegoro

We can become the best version of ourselves by embracing the forces that push us forward, inward and outward. The strength comes from within or from simply the challenges we face every day.

Knowing that embracing challenges can push her personal growth, Rahayu Rahmadila (21) always strived for excellence. Her dream of becoming a tech talent prompted her to join Bangkit 2023 Batch 1.

At the end of her journey in Bangkit, her efforts paid off. She finally launched her career in one of Indonesia’s big marketplaces. How could she reach her dream? Let’s dive into Rahayu’s story to know more about the pursuit of her career goal!

The Girl Who Dreamed of a Career in Data

In the Regency of Lima Puluh Kota, West Sumatra, Rahayu was the third of four children. Her father worked as a civil servant, and her mother was a housewife. Rahayu’s parents expected nothing but to see their thirdborn be successful in everything she wanted to excel in.

STEM had been the field Rahayu wanted to be proficient in. Therefore, as the acceptance letter from Universitas Diponegoro came to her, Rahayu became the first in the family to move out of her hometown. She flew from West Sumatra to Central Java to study statistics at her chosen university.

Although she studied statistics in college, Rahayu was curious about tech. As a result, she picked Computing and Data Science as her field of interest on campus. Her encounter with these two subjects encouraged her to be a future Data Analyst or Data Scientist.

As if the universe wanted to make Rahayu’s dream come true, she got acquainted with Bangkit in its program socialization at Universitas Diponegoro. Rahayu was in the 5th semester then, and the program head of the statistics department supported the students to participate.

When Rahayu Thrived in Bangkit

“Is this the challenge I have to embrace for the sake of my future?” Rahayu asked herself before deciding to get to know more about Bangkit.
Finally, she surfed the internet to find anything related to Bangkit, starting from the benefit she could get to the curriculum taught in the program. Seeing that Bangkit had a syllabus on the Machine Learning path helpful for Rahayu’s future career in data, she was interested in participating. Moreover, her curiosity about the capstone project also motivated her to enroll.

As her journey in Bangkit 2023 Batch 1 began, she tried to give her best because she knew that her campus gave her support by providing semester credits conversion. In the Machine Learning path, Rahayu admitted she had an enjoyable experience. She acquired the technical and soft skills that she had always expected. This girl believed that her experience in Bangkit could boost her professional portfolio.
“My favorite part in Bangkit was the capstone project. With my team, I built Kitchen’s Pal, an app that told users how to keep food staples long-lasting. This activity exposed me to how the professional world works, starting from recruiting part of the team, coordinating to build the product, and many more. It was challenging but beneficial for me.”
Rahayu’s endeavor in Bangkit yielded great results as she became one of the Bangkit 2023 Batch 1 Distinction Graduates. Her experience in Bangkit widened her professional network and prepared her to kickstart her career.

Kickstarted a Career in a Leading Company

Officially becoming a Bangkit 2023 Batch 1 Graduate, Rahayu was more than just ready to apply for her first career. Through the Magang Merdeka program, she submitted her resume to Lazada for the Strategy and Planning Analytics Intern position. She aimed for that occupation because it was linear with her study concentration.

In the recruitment process, she was confident with her interview session because her learning experience in Bangkit was relevant to the qualifications needed by the company. No wonder Rahayu was successfully hired.

As a Strategy and Planning Analytics Intern, Rahayu was responsible for tracking the data using SQL, creating data analysis using spreadsheets or data visualization on the dashboard, and many more. She could carry out her duties well because of her hands-on experience in the capstone project.
“I believe my fellow female tech talent can follow in my footsteps to reach their dreams. All I want to say to support them is never stop learning and keep challenging yourself.”
Rahayu wished nothing but more Bangkit female graduates to successfully achieve their goals and be on top in everything they want to excel in. Good luck to Rahayu and all female tech talents!
